Scene II-Greed and Science

There is a popular proverb that “iron cuts iron”; this proverb fits in astoundingly well with “human greed” too. While it is true that greed is abound at any given point of time and several miseries can be sourced to it; it is equally true that this “greed” itself is a catalyst in most global activities and it itself( greed that is)turns into a very strong and successful emotion of “self preservation” in situations of extreme distress. That is, if in case greed gets you to the precipice and you are about to tumble down to your death it is the greed of “self preservation” that makes you make all possible efforts to move away from the precipice as quickly as feasible. This observation is not very unique or unknown; in fact it is a universal truth that is being recognized in all nooks and corner of the earth and increasingly it is being concluded that all our efforts at scientific advance are done in fact with the greed of “self preservation” and for increasing the “quality with which we remain preserved”. In fact historically human scientific advance had been invariably been a reaction to the problems posed to it by the times of that date and was “defensive” in the sense that if a scientific solution was not found in short to medium term huge losses may come about and/or the inventions were so very basic and radical that full commercial development for human use could be based on such inventions only after an elongated period of trial and error. As of today the human civilization, though faced with challenges constantly, has traversed such a great distance in scientific advance that “self preservation” concerns are now almost forgotten and considered long achieved-where are the doomsday forecasters? ; the scientific advance of today in fact is increasingly getting focused on bettering ‘the quality of preserved life”. Doomsday soothsayers may not find this comforting but bitter fact remains that “human network” is now well nigh invincible and only a cataclysmic natural disaster may affect portions of it fatally. While I do personally believe that nature cannot be entirely tamed with our environment remaining intact; however “disaster/crisis management” has come of age and can substantially reduce the impact of most foreseeable natural calamities. I had very little intention of quoting extensively from other documents as I consider this document to be an entirely public offering from the author to the globe at large; however would do so if such quotes work to sharpen the focus. In a three part book on “The Ultimate Philosophy” its author writes:
